This week was loooooong! There were a lot of things that I had to do this week and a lot of family members, friends and people that were counting on me to accomplish all I said I’d do. When a wrench was thrown in the original plan I had to find a way to work it out and it was by and large an exhausting seven days! While all of this was swirling around me I was studying the seven habits of highly effective people. It was both interesting and insightful but also a little depressing. I had many opportunities to see how I could be handling situations better. But I also had the opportunity to put into practice some of the principles from my reading. My favorite thing ended up being habit 1: Be proactive. This is something that I’ve struggled with my entire life! The quote that really struck me was, “Reactive people are swept away by the heat of the moment. Proactive people are driven by values that are both well thought out and internalized.” I am often times reactive but I really want to become proactive! As I read this I thought of a part in the book Mastery that talks about visualization. I think that as I visualize myself reacting differently in stressful situations it can help me change my initial reactions and choose to be more proactive.

Another concept I thought about this week was from the video Passion vs. Money. I have never lived in a home where money was plentiful. But I have always had a beautiful life. Growing up in a large one income family presented many opportunities to work hard, learn important skills and expect little. But my father built an amazing home that my mother beautified. Now I have my own large family that we’re raising on a teacher’s income and we find that money doesn’t bring the truly important things into our lives. So, I see that riches are not always in the form of money!
