October 29, 2022 This week was loooooong! There were a lot of things that I had to do this week and a lot of family members, friends and people that were counting on me to accomplish all I said I’d do. When a wrench was thrown in the original plan I had to find a way to work it out and it was by and large an exhausting seven days! While all of this was swirling around me I was studying the seven habits of highly effective people. It was both interesting and insightful but also a little depressing. I had many opportunities to see how I could be handling situations better. But I also had the opportunity to put into practice some of the principles from my reading. My favorite thing ended up being habit 1: Be proactive. This is something that I’ve struggled with my entire life! The quote that really struck me was, “Reactive people are swept away by the heat of the moment. Proactive people are driven by values that are both well thought out and internalized.” I am often times reactive...

October 22, 2022 This week was long! I enjoyed the content that we were studying this week both in our weekly study and in the book Mastery. I was also in a car accident, that wasn't my fault, and had weather issues cause a power outage that left me without internet. Somehow, even with all of this, I spent so much of my time thinking about being an entrepreneur. I learned, as I read in the book Mastery, that I have a natural tendency to be a 'dabbler'. I love to think of ideas and to get them started. I love the initial excitement, but there are times that I struggle with the execution, or staying motivated and invested. I did see though, that with the small business that I acquired and have been running this year, that I am overcoming that tendency to some degree. I find that I love every aspect of running this business once I get past the intimidation of never having done it before. I love to figure out and pay my taxes, I am learning to track my finances and miles and I...

October 15,2022 This week I watched a speech called A Hero's Journey. There were several things that I liked about it and a few things that have been on my mind throughout this week. I related to the speaker who said that he had worried and wondered if he really had what it takes to succeed. I wonder this regularly. I always have ideas swirling around in my head and I want to do something about them. I think the thing that holds me back the most is my own self doubt. In this speech there was one part where he talked about waking up at age 50 or 60 and thinking that you had wasted your life. I want to overcome self doubt so that I can become all that I am supposed to become. Because I am a stay at home mother who cares a great deal about her children, I don't think I have been wasting my time or life, but I am moving into a different stage of life now. I have more time and I have learned so much about patience, time management, prioritization etc. and I want to know how to best...

October 8, 2022 This week was busy and full of driving children to and from activities, school and work! I had little time to sit and write but quite a lot of time to sit and ponder. One of my favorite parts of my studies this week was the video ‘Do What you love.’ I found the concept of the three overlapping circles, (good at, born to do and pay you to do) very interesting. I think that finding a purpose in life in the small area where those three concepts overlap is brilliant. I spent time trying to figure out what it is that I’m good at. My list is not long but I am good at a few things. I love to come up with business ideas and to think through an entrepreneurial idea. I love problem solving when I come to a hiccup in the ideas. I am good at scheduling. I am good at first impressions and interviewing. I am terrible at accepting compliments so it was difficult to think of and write down things that I think I’m good at, but it did help me start to consider what I am born to do. I kno...

October 1, 2022 This week I was able to spend more time pondering. I was reading in the book, Launching Leaders, and I loved the advice to spend time in your 'Holy Place' meditating or pondering. For me, my holy place is going for a walk outdoors with only me and my thoughts. I spend most of this time thinking of what I want to do and be in life. This often leads to a business or humanitarian idea. I like to think through them until I come to a possible problem and then try to find ways to solve the problems. This week I was thinking about my idea for an NGO. It is centered on supporting different humanitarian causes. I had the thought that when it someday becomes a reality that I could partner with HXP (a humanitarian organization that organizes humanitarian trips for teenagers) to accomplish projects that we support. I also thought about going to the local mission president to set up local mission wide service projects in third world areas. It was very exciting to me and it m...
